Students are creative. They can imagine the worst possible scenarios of stories.
In this activity, you can encourage students to use a lot of adjectives by describing scenes and people.
Idea: The teacher draws something on the board and tells the class what it is. The first student
then continues the story by adding his/her own drawing and story. The second student adds another drawing and story...and so on.
What to do:
1. Draw any object you can think of on the board. (Don't worry about the drawing part, focus on the adjectives students will use and their creativity). Tell to the class what you have drawn and
give a sentence to start the story.
Ex. tree, chair, girl, TV... There was once a beautiful tree in the....
2. Call the first student and ask him/her to add another object to continue the story.
Ex. Then two boys saw the tree...
2. Call the second student and do the same. Encourage the student to describe their object and to think of something unique.
Ex. Then they heard a strange voice...
Ex. Suddenly, they were sent to another place...

3. Be sure to control the story.
4. End the story.
5. Review the adjectives used in the story.

There is a need to increase our students' desire to read. Especially newspapers.
If you ask your class who reads the newspaper, I believe you'll see around 5-7 hands raised. The rest depend on TV, internet and hearsays.
One effective way to encourage students to read is by cutting out interesting articles from newspapers or printing out a copy from internet news sites.
1. Distribute the news articles to the students.
2. Give them time to read the article. Let them use the dictionary if needed.
3. Let the students write the important items from the article. (names, dates, places)
4. Encourage the students to answer the 5W 1H about the article.
5. Let each student report in front. Encourage them to share the interesting things they have learned from the article.
-This activity can help develop their confidence and will help them learn new words.

I bet the reason why you have landed in this article or site is because you want some change in the daily routine of your class. I have to admit that teachers do come to a point wherein they get bored at the day to day discussions in the class. Well, you are not alone.
Maybe you want to try film showing as an activity.
It includes the name of the movie as well as it's genre. It also includes WORD or PDF guide materials for both the students and teachers.
Happy viewing!
Please feel free to leave the links of your suggested sites for ESL movies. =)
